Purpose: Inspects, maintains, repairs and installs electrical
systems, equipment and fixtures. Is fully qualified to perform the
most complex functions and may lead the work of others. Primary
Duties/Responsibilities: Performs preventative, predictive and
corrective maintenance on mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic,
and hydraulic equipment according to supplier specifications.
Estimates time and material costs for assigned projects. Dismantles
equipment to gain access to and repairs defective parts using hand
tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing devices. May
fabricate devices and assemblies from steel. May weld, thread pipe
and solder using gas and electric equipment. Re-assembles and tests
equipment ensuring safe and efficient operating condition is
restored. Inspects and troubleshoots electrical systems, equipment
and fixtures using testing devices and diagnoses basic operational
problems. Takes corrective action and obtains necessary repair
parts per procedure in assigned area. Prepares work orders either
manually or from a CMMS system as required and prepares work
related reports, procurement requisitions, charts, graphs and data
submittal requirements in an accurate and timely manner. Performs
electrically related activities specified by work order and
installs new or replacement electrical systems, equipment and
fixtures. Reports and documents results of inspections and work
performed. Performs facility maintenance and repair and may replace
or install damaged glass, windows, doors, partitions, ceiling or
floor tile, door locks, carpet, and/or paint. Installs and repairs
electrical wiring systems, electrical motors, generators, armatures
and other electrical equipment. Installs, telephone and computer
system, wiring fire and security alarms wiring, electric cell door
locks, television and coaxial cables. Troubleshoots and tests
electrical systems and related apparatus to locate source of
malfunction. Make alterations to electrical systems and equipment
to meet the needs of their department. May assist with maintaining
parts, spares and maintenance inventory. May assist in other areas
of plant as directed. May assist with orienting or training new or
less experienced Maintenance personnel. Performs other related
duties as assigned. Work Environment: Spends 100% of time in
operations environment. Typically spends 25 - 35% of time exposed
to outdoor and sometimes inclement weather. Company service
vehicles are used as required. Travels 1 - 2 times per year for
company provided training. May serve rotational 24-hour emergency
on-call. Possible Work Hazards: May be exposed to possible
operations hazards including fumes, dust, toxic and caustic
chemicals, noise, rotating machinery, high pressure and hot and
cold temperatures, slippery surfaces, water and electrical hazards.
Requires using chemicals and cleaning solvents to maintain and
repair equipment. Qualifications Education/Experience/Background:
High school or GED with the ability to read, write and comprehend
English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions) and
be able to carry out verbal and written instructions. Ability to
perform basic mathematical calculations. At least five years of
experience in a related position in a similar environment with
ability to comprehend complex specifications, wiring diagrams,
electrical schematics, blueprints and manuals.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must demonstrate proficiency in the
care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal
Protection Equipment), including respirators, gas detectors,
confined space equipment, etc.) Must consistently demonstrate the
ability to perform all assigned tasks in an organized, accurate and
timely manner. Must demonstrate ability to efficiently maintain,
install and repair any electrical equipment which may include
pumps, blowers, compressors and other electrically driven
equipment. Must have the ability to diagnose problems regardless of
complexity, troubleshoot electrical equipment and systems and take
corrective action within policy and procedure limitations.
Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and local municipality
electrical codes. Knowledge of the theoretical principles of
electricity, magnetism, and circuitry. Knowledge of the operation
of generators, batteries, motors, computers, telephones, and other
electrical apparatus and equipment. Knowledge of standard trade
practices. Skill in using welding equipment. Skill in
troubleshooting and analyzing electrical malfunctions. Required
Certification/Licenses/Training: Must hold valid journeyman
electrician's license. Minimum water/wastewater license as required
by regulatory agencies at site. Physical Requirements: Amount of
time spent - Bending 60 %, Walking 25%, Standing 10% and Sitting
5%. Requires lying on back, kneeling, crawling, twisting and
squatting. Requires close visual and hearing observation to detect
non-conformance and equipment malfunction. Constantly uses hands to
finger, handle or feel and frequently reaches with hands and arms.
Works in various positions; works on ladders, catwalks, and
supports at heights of 50 feet above the ground; and works with
hands extended above and below head and body up to 40 minutes using
hand tools weighing up to 15 pounds. Must be able to lift and carry
50 pounds (occasionally 60 pounds) distances of 10 feet. Occasional
stooping, bending or kneeling and entering confined spaces.
